Hemorrhoid Bending

Hemorrhoid banding is a non-surgical, outpatient solution to the pain, bleeding and potential complications of swollen anal veins. It can be effective when the condition is still relatively mild, but diet, lifestyle and medication treatments have not provided relief.

Description

The physician ties tiny rubber bands around the bases of the hemorrhoids to cut off the problem blood overflow. The affected area will shrink and fall off within 7 to 10 days depending on the degree of swelling. You may experience temporary discomfort or bleeding a few days after the procedure, but complications are rare.

If you are diabetic, please let us know in advance so we can schedule your appointment at a suitable time. Before the day of your procedure, you will need to obtain a Microlax Enema or Fleet Enema from your local pharmacy.

The day before your appointment please restrict yourself to a light, easily digested diet such as soups, porridge, mashed potatoes and cooked vegetables. Avoid heavy foods such as meat and fried dishes. You can take your regular medications as usual.

The morning of your appointment, on waking insert a Microlax Enema or Fleet Enema. You can expect to have a bowel movement within 20 to 30 minutes. Patients who have a painful condition in and around their rectum or who are allergic or suspect they are allergic DO NOT need to take this enema.

The morning of your appointment, have only water, tea or coffee and take any medications as usual. Patients who are diabetic should have a light breakfast.
